The Spirit of Peoria

For the 4th of July celebration Christy's Mom Ann came to visit. We started her visit with a trip on the Paddleboat "The Spirit of Peoria". The paddleboat starts in Peoria and goes north up the Illinois river for 8hrs to Starved Rock State Park. We stayed at a wonderful lodge built in the 1920s by the Civilian Conservation Corps and then took the boat back to Peoria.

Here I am checking out the bridge as we leave Peoria.

Christy and Ann checking out another bridge as we make our way north at 7.5 MPH.

The paddlewheel was the only source of propulsion for the boat.

A sailboat coming along side. The Spirit of Peoria docked at Starved Rock State Park. The spectacular view from the top of Starved Rock. Note the small tour boat docked in the river.

Another great view.

Hiking in the state park. Before you start to mock the "hiking" take note that Starved Rock is LOADED with poison ivy and the only way to get around in the park is on a developed trail. We saw a tree that was covered with poison ivy to a height of 10 feet or more.
One of the many waterfalls in the park.
Back on The Spirit of Peoria. I am checking things out with the binoculars.

Christy watching Illinois flow by.

Relaxing out of the sun. We had great weather with highs in the upper 70s. Note the dew on the table.

A beached tug we named the Harry Lee Morgan.
A view from the back of the boat.
Relaxing.
Cruddy reading and watching the scenery.
